[ story behind the song ]

In a letter to his young trainee Timothy, the apostle Paul could not contain an outburst of praise when he recalled how God’s grace had transformed him from a murderous religious persecutor into a preacher of the Gospel.

This song, based on that doxology (1 Timothy 1: 17), is an invitation to all people to bring honour and glory to the King Eternal.

Originally written for the Millennium Chorus project in 1997 and re-recorded for What grace in 2001.

[ lyrics ]

To the King eternal
Immortal invisible
The only God

To the King eternal
Immortal invisible
The only God

Honour and glory for ever and ever
Honour and glory for ever and ever (repeat)
Honour and glory for ever and ever

To the King of Creation
Of saints and of angels
Sovereign of all

Who calls the nations
To feast at his table
Almighty Lord

To him who is and was and is to come
The First the Last and ever-living one

To the King eternal
Immortal invisible
The only God

To the King eternal
Immortal invisible
The only God

Honour and glory for ever and ever
Honour and glory for ever and ever

Let all the world in every corner sing
All that has life and breath your praises bring
Honour and glory for ever and ever
Honour and glory for ever and ever Honour!
For ever! Glory! For ever! Amen
